I-m-pro-fessional

training course in Slovenia 2019

exploration of improvisation principles

in Youth work

From the 19th to the 28th of March 2019 in Brezice. Slvoenia.

I-m-pro-fessional was an 8-day training course which aimed to introduce and explore principles of “improvisation” and experiment with practical and fun tools and techniques that can be readily used in daily life, creative work and in the other situations and places too. Training own awareness, acceptance and sense of initiative improved the quality of participants days and the things they do. They have  learned how to jump into the unknown and to respond properly to the needs of the diverse people and situations we are working with.

The training was designed for youth workers, volunteers, activists, trainers and other people who work with people, that want to refresh their skills and attitudes to their days, to other people, to work and to the world.

We had an overall number of 19 participants from the following countries:

Germany, Greece, Spain, Latvia, Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, Ireland and Slovenia.

During the training we were:

  • collecting new inputs and inspiration that renew motivations to act with commitment and new ideas.

  • refreshing curiosity and playfulness in approaching your work in order to prevent burning out.

  • improving your trainers’ skills to be more efficient, adaptable, responding to issues and demands in your work.

  • widening your perspectives and points of view to see new opportunities, create new patterns, and avoid situations of stalemate when working with people with different cultural background.

  • gathering specific tools from non formal artistic fields (theatre, dance, creative expression) that are not easily accessible for all the youth workers.

By training your own awareness, acceptance, sense of initiative you can improve the quality of your actions. We wish to support you in finding ways to more efficient and creative approach through improvisation – by developing your skills to be fully present, listen, accept and act, by equipping you with new improv based tools that you can later on use in your practice.

Few words from participants:

Last days of March I had wonderful chance to participate in 8-days training course hosted by MOAVE – Psychology in Movement and wonder team - Jana, Antonio, Andrej and Nayeli.
.
This course was supported through the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme, Mobility of youth workers.
.
Improvisation has always been topic of "no no": I don't know how to improvise, I have never trained myself to do it, I enjoy to be prepared, in control, mmm. So by gathering myself together and travel to Slovenia to explore principles of improvisation sound like a great idea for my challenge lover soul.

Together with other beautiful souls from Germany, Greece, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, Ireland, Slovenia and other animals we had safe space and air to meet each other and train our awareness, senses, acceptance, explore principles of improvisation through dance/ movement, contact impro, theater, art and get to know how it all can be integrated in our professional work and daily life.

I moved, got moved, laugh (a lot), touch (a lot), got inspired, discussed big things, observed (a lot), reflected, learn and performed.
I understand that I train my improvisation, "in the moment" sense and reaction already all day-everyday and it's just getting better step-by-step.

By collecting pieces of moments and putting them into story what makes sense (or no-sense, works either) it was magical way to welcome spring and bring spring home, to my work, my daily life. With new lessons of how let go expectations and be more present, how presense vs analyze, how to add into picture rather changing picture, how sometimes thinking into the box is as good as thinking out of the box.

Last picture shows my and one of my youngest patient improvisation of making activity together. Maybe one day her wish gonna come true and she will get her unicorn.
.
Oversize thank you to beloved humans Jana StaráAntonio CargnelloAndrej Dobes and Nayeli Špela for making this happen. Thank you for your big hearts.

And thanks to all participants for the warm feelings. Thanks for reminder what such a wonderful place is to be together.

For anyone that ever wondered what kind of "weird" stuff youth workers get up to on an international training course, this video is a pretty good representation! Drawing, laughing, crying (a lot), dancing, reflecting (all the time), climbing mountains, getting lost and found again, falling in love, connecting with the coolest people ever, reconnecting with myself, writing, performing, improvising, making up weird ass songs on the spot, magic forest-ing, gaining a whole new family, figuring out that Latvians would NEVER ask their neighbour if they needed a lemon, more mad rituals than you could shake a hippy stick at and most importantly closing your eyes! In the midst of the torm that B**x*t I am so happy and proud to be European!
